Virtualization Modernization for a Nationwide Government Insurance Body

Executive Summary

A large government-owned insurance organization needed a modern virtualization environment that could scale nationwide but their existing. Dell Unity storage wasn’t officially supported on Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization. We engineered a custom architecture that allowed. OpenShift Virtualization to run seamlessly with Dell Unity storage, designing and validating the configuration to ensure consistent performance and reliability across their landscape. What was considered “not supported” became fully operational. This OpenShift Virtualization–based solution now powers 300+ virtual machines across multiple regions in India, with unified management and monitoring ensuring smooth operations and zero downtime. Silvereye transformed a critical compatibility challenge into a reliable, nation-wide virtualization environment — demonstrating our ability to achieve outcomes once thought impossible.

Client Background and Challenges

The client is a nationwide health and social insurance authority managing hospitals, employee data, and public service applications. Reliability is essential for their operations — any interruption can affect service delivery at a national scale. To support growing demand, they required a modern, flexible, and centrally managed virtualization platform. The client wanted to move to a container-native virtualization environment but faced two major constraints:

  • Their current storage platform was not officially supported on the new virtualization stack
  • The organization handled 300+ workloads that could not afford downtime or service disruption
  • Replacing storage would increase cost, complexity, and deployment timelines. A solution was needed that ensured stability, performance, and continuity without interrupting services.

Our Approach and Solution

Silvereye partnered with the client to modernize their virtualization environment while ensuring uninterrupted nationwide operations. Key actions included:

Deploying a Modern Virtualization Platform

Designed and implemented a container-native virtualization environment capable of supporting large-scale, mission-critical workloads across multiple regions.

Integrating Existing Storage

Successfully integrated the client’s existing Dell Unity storage using a validated configuration, enabling full production use without hardware replacement or additional cost.

Ensuring Zero-Downtime Migration

Tested and validated the platform for performance, failover, and stability before go-live, ensuring that all services remained online throughout deployment

Centralizing Workload Management

Unified more than 300 virtual machines under a single platform, giving the client centralized monitoring, control, and simplified operations across India.

Business and Community Impact

  • 0% additional storage cost — existing Dell Unity storage used successfully in production
  • Zero downtime during migration and post-go-live operations
  • 300+ VMs consolidated and managed under a single virtualized platform
  • Centralized monitoring and control across nationwide workloads
  • No hardware replacement required, avoiding capital expenditure and procurement delays
  • Higher reliability and performance vs. the legacy virtualization setup
  • Scalable foundation for upcoming applications and IT growth
